Time for Change
As you know I live in a lovely house with a few people who are on a similar course to me. Some are in third year finishing their undergraduate degree while the rest of us are studying for a masters. While I am studying a research masters in Musical Direction, the others are studying a masters in performance. On Sunday I went to the first of three recitals that my housemate, Grace, has to do and it really made me miss playing flute. I play at church for Mass when I go home but other than that my flute stays in its case most of the time.

Grace played a lovely programme of Chopin, Godfrey Finger and Hendrick Focking. I have to admit the last two composers I had never heard of but now, I'm glad I have. All the pieces were played with such style and elegance. At times I almost had a tear in my eye.
So, with it being January I think it's time to make a change. Although I never usually make New Year's resolutions because I never keep to them, maybe it is time to suggest some changes in my life. Lots of things have been happening recently which some of you may be aware of, but most of you won't, that have made me see the need for change and, sort of, a new beginning. So here's my first change; to give my flute the attention it deserves. It wasn't made to stay in its case, it was made to create beautiful music. Maybe Grace will help me find a new piece to learn?
