Who Am I?

Hi! It's me Caitlin, that's me over there, handing in my disseration (aaahhhh!). Having got to the end of my degree at the University of Liverpool in Music and Popular Music I have come to the conclusion that people outside the music world think us musicians are layabouts and that what we do is easy. I am here to show you... it is not.

Please don't mistake this blog as a place for me to vent about all the challenges and hardhips that I may go through in my musical journey. I will be the first one to say that all the hard work, time and dedication that music requires it is always totally worth it.

This blog is purely going to be a place for me to document any and all the musical experiences I have and show the world how much musicians actually do.

From busy and long rehearsal schedules, to practicing, to conducting whatever song you're listening to as you walk down the street and looking like you are a complete looney, musicians have both interesting and boring lives just like everyone else. One week we could be doing a show, the next we could just be practicing and doing everyday jobs. The best thing about being a musician is that we are able to translate the dots on the page for those who do not have that skill so that they can enjoy music too. Our job is so rewarding, maybe not as much as a doctor's is, but seeing the emotions that music can conjure up within people is so amazing and I would not be without it.

As Plato put it:

'Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.'

I couldn't have put it better myself, for without music, life would be boring, and less colourful. We wouldn't want that would we?
